AXIATA Group Bhd is looking to acquire more business in a segment other than mobile telecommunications services abroad this year as part of efforts to increase sources of income. President and Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Seri Jamaludin Ibrahim said the group more aggressively explore opportunities in many areas that potentially increase their income base, especially those involving non-core segments for this the mobile telecommunications.
"When told the plan of acquisition of other businesses, it is still associated with mobile services performed for this group.
"We look for opportunities in the areas of content, entertainment, electronic payment and electronic commerce," he said after the launch of the Youth Talent Development Program Axiata in Kuala Lumpur yesterday. The launch completed the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Chairman Axiata , Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar. Jamaludin said, despite having a plan to strengthen its business in other segments of the mobile but, strictly speaking, relative contributions from the business to the group is small. Axiata also, he has yet to identify the market and other companies in the mobile segment the potential to be acquired this year. "We can not disclose the details yet, for now. The plan is still in its infancy, "he said. He added, Axiata is expected to provide capital expenditure amounted to RM4.2 billion this year, almost the same as last year which will be used to further strengthen the business base. "We will announce further plans business group this year at the end of next month. Currently, we are still in the account update and announced financial results and key performance indicators (KPI) group at the end of February, "he said.
